A BRIEF INFORMATION ON THE INVESTORS FORUM
The Tanzania Airports Authority (TAA) is a semi-autonomous
agency, under the Ministry of Communications and Transport
and was launched in December 1999 as part of the Public Sector
Reform Programme.
Following its launch, TAA was assigned several functions
and some of the critical ones include to operate, manage,
maintain and develop government owned airports in a professional
and cost effective manner, to provide comfortable, efficient
and secure services and facilities for the movement of passengers,
aircraft and cargo in its airports, to ensure that airport
policies regulations and procedures are implemented in accordance
with international standards.
These functions are aimed at making TAA realize its
vision, which is to become a model in the provision of airport
facilities and services in Eastern Africa by 2010.
In order to adequately implement its functions and
achieve its vision, TAA requires joint partnerships with the
investing community in order to mobilize resources for undertaking
the already identified investment opportunities that will
reward all investing partners and the Tanzanian economy as
a whole.
In this case therefore, TAA is preparing to convene
an Investors Forum in order to reach out to all possible investors
with a view to enhancing the development of the airports sub-sector.
Very specifically the objectives of that Investors Forum include:
- To present to the forum investment opportunities
in a form of projects and their detailed profiles in order
to convince and entice the would be investors to effecting
investments,
- To have an opportunity whereby TAA could bring to
the attention of the potential investors the kind, extent
and pace of reform processes that are taking place in the
airports sub-sector,
- To demonstrate to the forum participants the existing
and reliable investment environment which is attractive
to potential investors that guarantees competitive investment
returns,
- To create a framework for the continuous dialogue
and understanding with potential investors on how they feel
about TAA investment opportunities and ways by which these
investments could actually be implemented,
- To share views with forum participants on how best
investments that will be made will contribute the provision
of the best airports facilities and services in Eastern
Africa by 2010.
